Ram 2500 vs. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD: A Head-to-Head Comparison

When you're in the market for a heavy-duty truck, the Ram 2500 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are two of the most popular choices, known for their robust capabilities and powerful engines. While we proudly offer the Ram 2500 at Horne Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we understand that shoppers often compare it to strong competitors like the Silverado 2500HD. Let's take a closer look at how these two impressive trucks compare.

Power and Performance

Both the Ram 2500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are built to tackle demanding tasks, offering a range of powerful engine options. The Ram 2500, available at our Globe dealership, often comes equipped with a 6.7L turbo-diesel inline-6 engine. For example, our new 2026 Ram 2500 Big Horn features this engine with 430 hp, while a used 2022 Ram 2500 Laramie we have on the lot has 370 hp from the same engine type.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD typically offers its own lineup of powerful engines, including gasoline V8 options and a Duramax turbo-diesel V8, designed to deliver substantial horsepower and torque for heavy hauling and towing. Both trucks are engineered for durability and strength, making them reliable partners for work or recreation.

Drivetrain and Body Styles

Heavy-duty trucks like the Ram 2500 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are designed with robust drivetrains to handle challenging conditions. The Ram 2500 models on our lot, such as the new 2026 Ram 2500 Big Horn and the used 2022 Ram 2500 Laramie, both feature Four Wheel Drive, a common and highly desired configuration for heavy-duty trucks, especially in varied terrain.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is also widely available with both two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations across its various trims, providing options for different driving needs. Both trucks come in several body styles, including regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab, often paired with different bed lengths to suit diverse hauling requirements.

Interior and Features

While both trucks are workhorses, they also offer comfortable and feature-rich interiors. The Ram 2500 models we have in stock demonstrate a range of equipment. For instance, the new 2026 Ram 2500 Big Horn includes features like Tow Hitch, Aluminum Wheels, Conventional Spare Tire, Tow Hooks, Integrated Turn Signal Mirrors, Power Mirror(s), and Heated Mirrors. It also offers 6 seats. The used 2022 Ram 2500 Laramie comes with Four Wheel Drive, Tow Hitch, Aluminum Wheels, Conventional Spare Tire, Power Mirror(s), Power Folding Mirrors, Integrated Turn Signal Mirrors, and Heated Mirrors, with 5 seats.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD also provides a variety of interior appointments and technology features across its trim levels, designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and connectivity for drivers and passengers. Both manufacturers focus on creating cabins that are not only durable but also practical for long drives and demanding jobs.

Safety and Reliability

Safety is a paramount concern for heavy-duty truck owners. The Ram 2500 models listed in our inventory, specifically the new 2026 Ram 2500 Big Horn and the used 2022 Ram 2500 Laramie, both hold a 4-star NHTSA overall safety rating. This indicates a strong commitment to occupant protection.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD also incorporates a range of safety features and robust construction to protect its occupants. Both trucks are built to withstand tough conditions and offer a variety of driver-assistance technologies across their model lines to help prevent accidents.
